LAKU is the beach club at Barceló Coconut Island, on Koh Maphrao just off Phuket's east coast. You arrive by boat from a private pier near Laem Hin Pier on the mainland, a crossing of about five minutes, and settle into day beds on the beach and around the pool.
The kitchen serves Mediterranean-style sharing plates, a raw bar and wood-fired grills, with fresh seafood, salads and slow-roasted meats. Day passes for outside guests include food and beverage credit, and the island setting suits long, unhurried lunches.
Saturdays at LAKU is the signature brunch, with DJ-led afternoons that continue into the evening. Families are welcome: the main pool is an adults-only space, but children have their own family pool next door, plus the beach, slides and nature play areas. The Island Explorers programme runs on Saturdays from 12pm to 5pm with qualified nannies. It is open daily from 10am to 10.30pm.
