La Cala is a beach club and restaurant on Gili Trawangan, with cushioned sunbeds and low lounges set out under parasols on the sand. They look across the channel, where boats bob offshore with Lombok's mountains behind.
The loungers come with a minimum spend. The kitchen is built around a grill, with grilled meat and fish, burgers, salads and a good range of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Breakfast is served from 8:30am, and the bar runs a happy hour later in the day. A curated soundtrack keeps the mood relaxed rather than clubby.
It is a good fit for couples, friends and anyone wanting a comfortable, stylish spot to spend a long day between swims. Book a sunbed through WhatsApp in high season. Card, transfer and cash are all accepted, though card payments carry a 3% surcharge. Free Wi-Fi is available.
